Delta Air Lines was the first operator of the venerable Douglas DC-9, placing their first DC-9-14 into service on December 8, 1965. After the short-lived sideways Widget on the tail, the Delta fleet served in the standard Widget scheme until their sale to Southern Airways in 1973.
