For a little over two years from February 2009 through October 2011, Lufthansa German Airlines operated Lufthansa Italia out of Milans Malpensa Airport. Originally envisioned to be operated by Air Dolomitis Embraer E-Jets, Lufthansa instead upgraded to the Airbus A319. Eventually, nine aircraft were in the fleet.
